Itchy Ear Treatment

Itch is a very natural reaction of our body to the changing outside stimulus or it may also be triggered by an internal phenomenon. Ear itching is also a very common thing to occur but the causes and the consequences range from being very usual to serious diseases. Here is guide to understanding the causes behind itching in the ear.

What may cause and itchy ear ?
Here are a few causes of itching in the ear. It is not necessary that the itch in your ear is caused by one of these, but there may be a good chance.

There are many skin conditions which have been found to be primary causes in many cases. For those who do not know, a skin condition may be defined any anomaly which affects the skin. This may be a simple reaction to excessive heat or cold or an allergy/infection from foreign particles. Eczema is on top of this list. It is a condition of the skin wherein there is skin irritation and inflammation. The degree of these conditions may vary according to the extent of the infection. This is a serious condition if it affects the ear and must be treated by a doctor as there is a high probability that it grows. Apart from eczema, psoriasis and Seborrhea are other skin conditions which may cause ear itching.

The amount of ear wax can also be a cause for itching and irritation in the ear. The secretion of the ear wax is a natural phenomenon of the body and has a purpose of protecting the inner canal of the ear against damage from foreign particles. This wax traps most of the dust that enters the ear and prevents it from going further. But it is very important to regularly clean the ear wax as the excess wax may cause itching. Also be careful not to overdo it as too little ear wax leaves the insides and dry and hence itchy.

These were just a few of the common sources of itching in the ear. One must however not take this as the one and only guide for diagnosing ear itching. If the itching is persistent then you must consult your ENT specialist and accordingly follow the course of treatment.
